Articles on: Issues that might appear

The clock is not adding the time correctly. What’s wrong with it?

Reasons the Clock May Not Appear to Add Time Correctly

Multiple Tabs Open:
To ensure fair play and maintain the integrity of the game, Checkmate Live has been designed to detect and flag the use of multiple tabs, browsers, or frequent refreshing during a tournament. These actions can cause desynchronization, disrupt the game state, or create inconsistencies in data synchronization.

For Pro and FIDE tournaments, using multiple tabs or browsers during a match is considered a breach of fair play policies. Our system actively monitors for these behaviors to uphold the competitive standards of these events. If a match is reviewed, the use of multiple tabs, browsers, or frequent refreshing will be considered and may affect the outcome of any appeal, prompting further investigation if necessary.

Network Latency:
Delays in your internet connection can temporarily affect how time updates appear on your screen, even though the server is accurately tracking the time. A latency indicator is on our roadmap to provide you with real-time feedback, helping identify and address connection issues during matches. A compensation feature is also in place to account for delays caused by slower devices or connections, ensuring fairness across all players.

Prohibited Tools and Extensions:
The use of unauthorized tools, browser extensions, or software that interferes with gameplay is strictly prohibited. These tools disrupt the platform’s functionality and violate fair play policies. Our system actively detects such activity, which may lead to account suspension, disqualification, or further investigation.

Device Recommendation:
Checkmate Live recommends you play your game on a PC with a stable internet connection. A stable setup ensures the best performance and reduces the likelihood of technical issues. This is a requirement for playoffs and finals. Mobile devices are permissible only for qualifiers.

Device Performance:
Slow or overloaded devices (e.g., due to running multiple apps or processes) may result in delayed visual updates, creating the illusion of clock inaccuracies.

Browser Issues:
Outdated browsers or compatibility issues with certain settings/extensions can interfere with the game’s real-time synchronization.

Geographic Distance from Server:
Players located far from server hubs (e.g., Singapore, Mumbai, Frankfurt) might experience minor delays, though efforts are made to minimize this.

Session Management:
Reconnecting or refreshing your game session during a match can lead to temporary inconsistencies in the clock display.

If it turns out the issue is on us, rest assured—we’ll ensure you are put right and not disadvantaged by Murphy’s Law! Your fair play and smooth experience are always our top priorities.
